Reference Image
Your reference images will need to be clear and well lit, a good reference allows me to capture all of the little details that make your loved one or pet so special, from their expression and likeness to important features like their eyes and nose. The more detail I can see, the better the drawing will turn out so please send the original photo where possible and not screenshots or edited images.
I find the best images for a pet portrait is directly in front of a window on a bright overcast day with your camera at eye level to your pet (some bribery with treats may be needed) Photos of your pets with their favourite toy or ball, or with their collar on, showing their name turn out really well and add some personality to your portrait. Sadly some of our beloved pets are no longer with us, in which case I will always do my best with whatever pictures you have.
If you’re asking for multiple subjects to be merged into one portrait, it’s especially important that all photos are clear and sharp for the most natural finish. It really helps if the photos are taken in similar lighting. For example, both in natural light, or both with flash. Matching lighting and similar angles makes the portrait blend and feel realistic.
If you are unsure what photos are best, please send me an email and I will let you know. Send me as many images as you like, the more the better! I’m always happy to help you choose the best reference.

Materials
All coloured pencil portraits are created with lightfast Faber-Castell Polychromos, Caran D’Ache Luminance, Pablo & Museum Aquarelle pencil on archival heavyweight paper. All portraits are matted with an acid-free mount, tape and backing to ensure your portrait will last a lifetime with proper care.
All graphite portraits are created with Faber-Castell 9000 and Pitt Graphite pencils on smooth heavyweight paper. Like the coloured pencil portraits, your graphite portrait will arrive matted with an acid-free mount, tape and backing.
Your portrait will be carefully placed in a cellophane envelope to prevent smudges and dirt on its journey to you, please keep it in this envelope until it’s ready to be framed. Over time coloured pencils may fade in direct sunlight, try hanging or placing your portrait in a shaded area where possible. Also avoid damp areas or places with a strong source of heat to avoid discolouration.
